Hi All ..... this is my first post here. I'm looking at an 08 KR F350 dually. I love the truck but I'm wondering about the 4:30 gears. I did a search for "Tow Boss" but everything I found pertained to 07 and earlier with the 6.0 engine. I will be towing a fifth wheel toy hauler that goes around 16K when loaded. I would appreciate some opinions as to the best gears to go with. I will probably be towing 8 to 10 K miles a year so economy is at least a consideration.
When towing, you'll get better fuel economy with the lower gears. You could always step up to a slightly taller tire in the future if you feel they are too low, but I'm guessing you will be very happy with 4.30s.
Biggest question I would have for you is the weight of what your towing. Even if your pulling 8-10k miles a yr., if it's 3-5k weight wise you don't need to be messing with 4.30 gears. So weight will play a more important role for gears then miles towing will.
Thanks for the response guys. I've decided to to with the 4:30's. As someone said, if it seems to be a little too low I could probably go to a taller tire. It also seems to me it would be easier on the rest of the drive train.
