Unhappy Door Locks cycling uncommanded

Thursday my locks started cycling. I was driving and they popped down, then up, then down, then I could hear them and they were being commanded down over and over, then it stopped. Yesterday they did the same thing. I disconnected the door switches when I got to work to eliminate them as the source. On the way home it re-occurred. Any thoughts?
Any one know what wire has the signal from the key pad or alarm? What does the gen module look like? Does it control the lock key pad also?

Thanks
Bill

GEM module. I'd need more info on your vehicle. On my 2002 Superduty, the door locks are primarily controlled out of the VSM. The GEM was integrated into the HEC cluster some time around 2002.

Some trucks have windshield leaks, and if you have a GEM module mounted on the firewall near the fuse box, the water runs down into the GEM and makes it go crazy.

Thanks for the reply. I am new to this forum.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I have a 2000 Excursion Limited with a 7.3L.<o></o>
I have owned it for about a month. There are no signs of water damage.<o></o>
I have not pulled the door panel and traced wires yet. That was going to be my next step.<o></o>
On my 93 E150 Club Wagon all the electronics were separate. What a great truck, 155K miles and only a water and fuel pump plus scheduled maintenance.<o></o>
I read on the 2000 they are integrated into the GEM, General Electronics Module, I think.<o></o>

This is what I could find.
The door locks are driven by one fuse going to multiple door lock relays. These relays are located way up behind the instrument panel on the passenger side. There is a driver's door unlock relay, and a all unlock relay and a all lock relay.

The relays are controlled by the RAP (remote anti-theft personality module). The RAP module is located high up on the driver's behind the instrument panel.

The jist I get from the whole setup is the RAP takes the radio signals and locks or unlocks the doors with the relays. Also after the relays are the manual lock unlock buttons. They do not use the relays.

Along with this the RAP communicates with the GEM, to turn the interior lights on when the doors are locked or unlocked. The GEM also tells the RAP when one of the doors are "ajar". So the GEM takes the door switch input and controls the interior lights among other things, but the RAP controls the locks.

Thanks <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Franklin</st1lace></st1:City>,
I will look for the relays in the daylight. If disconnecting them stops the cycling I will stick a bulb on a wire and look for the command while driving. Do you know if the RAP is shade tree serviceable or if I need to take it to a dealer for coding?

Thanks again

If it's like a VSM, then it will need to be programmed by J2534 pass thru module which is not a common device.

One more question, where are you researching this? I have not found a source for a factory service manual. A ford dealer I by performance part for my car recommended an online source but they did not have disks or books, just an online service with a monthly fee. Any recommendations?

And one more, what is injecting the extra stuff into my posts?

I have the factory disc that you can buy at www.helminc.com.

I have seen that weird smiley mess in someone's post before, but I don't know what's causing it, unless you are using something else to type your post and then pasting it onto this board?

question on unlock relay

I have a 2003 6L diesel F350 crew Cab with electric locks and key Fob
I need help from you all , here is my question I would like to hook up a switch outside the truck ( like a hide a key ) that will trigger the doors to unlock if pushed. the reason is I did a key lock delete on the door being they now have the same door handle as the back door wit no key , so unless someone breaks the glass there not getting in , if they pop open the side door handle the rod that the key would turn is gone. anyway so now i have to rely on my key fob and if i loose it for the battery goes dead i screwed so i want to hide a button i can oust , and i need to know were and what color the wire is that will send power to the door unlock relay ?
thanks

First thing I would try is unplugging the driverside door switches. It commands the windows and also the door locks, so if it's malfunctioning it would be a common cause to your issue. Plus it's a fast easy thing to isolate.
Your truck has a Controller Area Network buss, so it's going to act a little different than the typical analog power switches. None of the windows or lock may work if you disconnect the main switch, so I'd advise testing them after unplugging the switch.
