What are ya'lls favorite offroading magazines. I'm about to get a subscription to Peterson's offroad, and I may be getting a subscription to another for x-mas. Just wondering what ya'lls favorites are.
I liked that Dec/Jan issue of Off road adventures. They seem to be better at capturing the action in off-road scenes better than anybody else. Even my girlfriend likes it,and she hates off-roading. I also read Four Wheeler, and occasionally Off Roader. But never Petersen's. All of their articles are just like, ok here's how you stand there and watch people work on your truck. I like the more hands on approach in the other mags.
petersons 4 wheel off road has to be the best 4x4 magazine out there. they weem to cover more real world 4x4s that actually see the trails and mud etc. i also get four wheeler. though they cover more show n shin in my opinion. also off road adventures is a good one im gettin ready to read it right now as it just got here.

I used to buy both Four Wheeler and Petersens 4 Wheel & Off Road... Since Petersen took over Four Wheeler, it's plain 'old gone to crap... I still but it now and then tho...

I have the March 1990 issue of Off Roader, and I have never seen such tacky vehicles in my life. Four chromed shocks at every wheel? Chromed springs? It amazes me that there are no completely chrome trucks in there, but a few do come close. I am glad for the progress that has been made since then.
I get the big 3 and some of the "other" offroad mags too. But I'm gonna have to tell ya Four Wheeler is currently my favorite. (Big plug here, huh?) I'm not convinced that all the cover trucks are show and shine only, I'd run mine anywhere anybody may want to go. Catch is, they'd better go first, 'cause if I go first, they ain't coming. Anyway, as for hands on articles, the "you wouldn't understand" mags have everybody beat. I too like Ned Bacon's articles, so I guess the 4WParts mag is also a good read. I just can't seem to absorb enough info about as many vehicles as I can find, so I read them all.
By the way, about the January Four Wheeler cover......
I get Peterson's, Four-Wheeler, and Off-Road. Peterson's seems to have more 'meat' to it. Lots of stuff, but it does tend to lean heavy toward the rockcrawling side of 'wheeling. Four-Wheeler is a good read, it's middle of the road for me. Good coverage on daily driver sort of stuff. Off-Road is OK at times...they sure do tend to make a lot of mistakes in the writing though. I even wrote them asking them to explain further on an article...and they admitted they goofed, but then goofed again with the 'right' answer. As far as I'm concered, as long as I've got something to read while I'm on the can, they're all ok.
i usually get pettersons 4wheel offroad and i also get Off Road. I like both of them, pettersons covers a wide spectrum of stuff where Off Road is mostly off road racing and has great tech articles and its cheaper so i like it better(news stand proce of 3.99)
Four wheeler is better than petersens in my opinion. But as for tech their all kinda weak. They could go alot further. Also I hate how so many of the articles are just cheap commercials for some overpriced crap made in a warehouse in California. Like a cheesy infomercial on late night TV

Having just recently (2 weeks ago) re-entered the 4X4 truck owners club, I stopped by the store and got the current copies of ALL of the one's they had.
I'm actually kind of disappointed with ALL of them to a certain extent. What happened to all the tech articles for us 'mere mortals' they used to have? The kind of stuff that was useful to everyone, not just hard-core off-roaders?
They all seem to lean way to far towards hard-core off-roading or way too far towards "My truck is my cadillac".
Granted it's only been one issue of each, but here's what I observed:
Truckin' - God I HATE this magazine. It's mainly for people who want their asses dragging the ground. I've never seen such a collection of impractical trucks in my life.
OffRoad - Nice, if you are a hard-core Off-Roader.
4 Wheel Drive - Leans a bit too far towards the hard-core Off-Roader for me.
FourWheeler - The best balance of the bunch for us 'typical' 4X4 owners who buy trucks because we just plain prefer them over cars, and like the comfort of knowing it will do whatever we need it to do, whenever asked to do it. And we don't like having to slow down so much for speed bumps and driveway access dips We go hunting or fishing every now and then, have to deal with some snow in the winter time, and like the easier access into and out of the vehicle because of the height.
