Remote Start For Superduties

Ive been looking into a remote start for my
2006 F350. anybody done this mod?
The one ftepartsguy sells looks like a great way to go,
but my local dealer wants 4 hours labor to install!
(at $92.00 an hour) Anyone using any aftermarket
systems like Viper or such, with what kind of luck?
Any thoughts or problems with doing this mod?
Thanks guys for any imput.

Howard

I had a Ford branded code alarm. It was okay. When my last keyfob died, I replaced it with a much nicer system from Compustar. The unit I have is model P2W900FM-AS, it's a two way system. The fancy fob has a LCD screen that tells me the interior temperature, if the doors, hood or trunk (I plan on wiring my tonneau cover to this), if I have remote started the motor and it's running, it's supposed to be able to start up on programmable temperatures or by time.

One way systems are pretty much outdated, and 2 way systems don't require more to install. After taking a sec and nav class, I thought the install was pretty easy, however my first alarm many years ago sucked.

Because you have a lariat, I'd expect it's automatic so you don't have to find a manual transmission RS. Even if you do have a manual, models like my Compustar are manual compatible.

My buddy runs a auto electronics shop and when i saw him a couple of weeks ago he showed me what he was going to put in my '05 when i'm ready. I don't have a serial number but i can tell you that it's made by Avital and the unit is sick. The remote has a transmitter range of 1 mile!! He said you can start your truck from anywhere you want b/c when are you ever further away from your truck than a mile. Plus you can set it up to have a turbo timer on it as well which is a beautiful thing. I have had an Avital remote starter and alarm in my old truck and never had any problems w/ it and my wife has one in her SUV and loves it. I would definitely recommend looking into it and see what you think. Keep us posted as to what you find out there for products.

I use the Viper 5900 SST. Has the 2way remote w/ 1mi. (line of sight) range. I've installed this in my truck, my brother's F250, and my previous truck. Best alarm/remote start I've seen. Can get em on ebay for around $230ish. Install is somewhat complicated as you have to locate a few wires way up under the dash. You also have to have the cajones to cut into your factory ignition. But if you have the correct diagrams and info it's not so bad.

Compustar Turbo

I had the local car stereo shop install a Compustar with remote start and delayed turbo cool down options.
