A couple of weeks or so back I posted my ordeal with installing a set of shorty headers on my expedition. Well I thought I'd let everyone know about my change in gas mileage. Every so often there's this trip I take that's about 100 miles each way up on the turnpike. Well it's more like a racetrack because if you're not doing at least 75 MPH you get pushed out of the way.
Anyway, prior to installing the shorty headers I got 17 MPG on this trip. Last week I made this exact same trip again (first one with the headers) and I got 20.5 MPG, plus some noticeable extra pep to go along with it. That's about a 17%-18% increase on the highway MPG end. I haven't done enough around town driving to be able to check the city MPG yet, but I was getting 12 MPG city prior to the header install. I'll post those results when I have them.
Sorry guys for arriving late to the party. Can I have a brief summary of the shorty headers? Im getting ready to replace the pass. side exhaust manifold and studs. If I can find something as these Im interested. Are the shorty's a direct bolt in? Im very interested in the power and mpg aspect...Thanks foe the update.
The Gibson Headers were direct bolt on, with EGR tube connection, I also replaced when 3 studs were broken/ rusted off and manifold to Y pipe studs were 80% gone ready to snap
Don't know how much HP & TQ gains did not dyno, I can say better throttle response and a few mpgs and yes when wife's 01 needs it I will install shorty's on it.
Thanks Bradford for the help. As I was on Ebay I noticed a huge gap in pricing from 179.00 per pr. to 576.00 for a pair. The cheaper ones though didnt include gaskets and such. I noticed you are using Gibson. I will cancel my order from Ford, and start shopping for shorties...The good news is, I showed the wife, and I finally think after all these years of performance talk she said, well if they make more hp,tq,and mpg possibly and the price is fair then go for it!
Thanks

I've run steel headers on several of my vehicles. After the headers were installed I had those vehicles between 5 and 10 years and never had even one set rust out. But even if I did have to replace them in 5 years, that puts me about $300 out of pocket for the two sets compared to a set of SS ones at $500. Both ceramic and SS headers are just marketing hype, IMO.
