So after reading the whole thread what is the best "bang for the buck"? Ive got a 99 5.4 and sounds like the mpg is what will sell me. Are we talking 1-2 or???
iguess it would all depend on where you live and how long you are going to keep the truck. here in indiana ss is the only way to go. i have owned painted headers from people like hooker & headman that lasted. the summit headers are cheap and in a place that uses road salt will not last long.

Sounds like a pretty solid scientific assesment to me
Just because the Summit brand headers are inexpensive doesn't make them "cheap" or poor in quality as that moniker would suggest. They have a substantial flange and the wleding appears to be of good quality. I seriously doubt they are going to rust through and begine leaking in anything less than 5 years.
Maybe washing the salt off your vehicles on a regular basis would help?
i only speak what happened to me. the headers bolted up fine and worked great for a year and a half. i have had headers on most everything i have ever owned and the summit headers just did not last. in my case for a hundred dollars more i bought something i know will last.
