Question Shorty headers

I'm considering installing shorty headers on my '77 Ford 4x4 with a 400 in. motor. Anybody have experience doing this and if so what kind of benifits/problems did you run into? I know that long tube headers are available but having to run both pipes to the right side to get by the transfer case causes problems. I would think by runnning shorty headers one could start making the move earlier and make for a cleaner, more compact installation. Headers on these old trucks like to hang down and then they take a lot more abuse.

the only hedders available are fender exit long tube style. the run down the outside of the frame rail. i wouldn't mind a set of shorties if someone would create them without having to pay someone $150 an hour to create them from scratch and taking 10 hours.
