I run it stacked with the juice I have it set on 100 and cant change it bc some a**jack broke into my truck and stole the programmer. I plan on getting DP tuner eventually
I consistently only get 13 mpg but that was before the tuner as well I like my Edge stuff but when I bought it I had no idea about DP and to hear these guys talk DP is the ***** that killed Elvis so whenever I get some money I plan on backtracking ang getting a DP
I set my EVO to the 60 "towing" mode but haven't tried any of the others. On a steep grade pulling a 10,000# fifthwheel I had a short episode of "turbo surge" after dropping a gear and had to back out of it some. I also had to ease up on the go-pedal a couple of times when my EGT hit 1250....
... both problems I consider minor and each will be corrected as my budget allows: an ATS housing for the surge, and a bigger/better exhaust for the EGTs.
When I get to that point I may be trying some of the other settings on the EVO.
So far I get 18.5mpg empty, 10.5mpg avg with the fiver (8.5 UP into the mountains, 12.5 back down to the valley) and I made a trip this weekend to Sacramento towing a car trailer with a car on it and got 14.5mpg.
Mine is stacked with the Juice/attitude. When I'm not pulling I have my evo on the highest setting and the attitude on 5. To be honest, I havn't really been able to tell much difference between that setup and turning the attitude to zero and just running on the evo.
When I pull, I just use the attitude as a guage with it set on zero and turn the Evo down to the middle setting.
Any driving above 70mph, I only avg. 12.5 - 13 mpg empty. Under 70mph and 2000rpm, 16-17mpg. Towing, 10-10.5mpg.
Dont know if youve got a auto or 6 speed but the tow setting with a 6 speed is absolutely worthless. I run mine in the race setting all the time and get 17mpg goin to and from work. I like it that way because the power is there when i need it. It's nice because it has the gauges and code reading abilities, because with the 6637 and 4" exhaust it will set of some codes, cant remeber the exact ones right now but it will set the CEL, and with it you can just reach up and clear the codes. I have never played with any of the custom settings on it, so it could be better, dunno. Its good for a beginer programer but if I wouldve found these forums in time I wouldve went with a DP. When my rich uncle gets out the poor-house and I can afford a DP, i will keep the Edge for the gauges. If you dont have the money for a better chip or programmer then I'd say get it and keep it for the gauges when you get something better. Hope this helps.
I have been using an Evolution Programmer (Edge Product) for my 2001 F150 Supercrew 5.4 L Gas engine.
I have been using level 2 to get better gas mileage. It went from 13-15 mpg to around 14 to 16.5 mpg Highway and city driving. I am using a Borla catback Exhaust on 20 inches rims with Brembo front rotor and Rotora rear rotor.
I have been making small changes to over the months so the gas mileages goes up and down.
I changed my KN generation one intake (No cold air box) to a Volant Intake (With Cold air box) and noticed a small increase in gas mileage for city driving using the Volant, but the KN is better for high way driving. Volant intake is 3.5 to 3 inches so it has better throttle responds on low end and the KN intake is 4 to 3 inches so it is better for the high end. With the Volant it average around 14.75 to 15 mpg.
Then I changed my factor coil to the Pro Series X 60,000 Volts and I noticed the throttle responds gone up again and the mpg gone up about 0.25 mpg to around 15.5 mpg
After that I change the Spark plug to NGK Laser Platinum and IX Iridium Spark Plugs and noticed a very small increase in gas mileage about 15.6 mpg.
I then added the Granatelli Mass Air Sensor and noticed a big decrease in gas mileage using the Volant intake about 14 mpg, but throttle responds gone way up. The Edge Programmer on level two did not shift right with this combination.
The Granatelli Mass Air Sensor with KN intake tube and Volant cold air box and a 4 inch hump hose did not work right gas and spark reading was all over the place.
After that then added Sun Hyper Magnet and gas mileage went to 16.5 and the Edge programmer started to shift better.
I am currently testing Sun Hyper Voltage System GT & Hyper Ground Wire
I run mine on 1 (60 hp -100 lbs torque, tow), and get decent mileage, firmer shifts and better throttle response. I ran it on 2 (80 hp - 140 lbs torque, race) on the highway up to a cabin at 6,000' and back last month and got 17.6 mpg (empty) over the 250 mile trip. I thought that was pretty good, but I don't really need that much power (except going up the mountain was fun ) so I went back to level 1 when I got back. Rather have a "on-the-fly" like the DP, but I wanted some quick and dirty gauges too so I got the Evo.
I had Juice/Attitude stacked with the Evo. Got smart and sold the J/A and bought a Dp. Usually kept the Evo in the highest setting and J/A was in whatever. Went through 3 Transmissions too thanks to the Edge garbage products.
As BoyerCustomTruck said, its best place is on the shelf.
Also, thanks to Edge, I was able to purchase a new BTS trans. Dp and BTS work great together. Edge can be used as an expensive guage.
