Digital records now ‘an indispensable part of many people's lives’
LOS ANGELES - Digital video recorders don't just save TV shows, according to a new survey; they save relationships.
Some 79 percent of 1,000 DVR owners reported that the technology has improved their relationship, according to the NDS DVR Report.
The statistic was just one of many presented by NDS, a manufacturer of DVR technology, suggesting the machines are becoming increasingly integral in U.S. households.
For instance, DVRs were cited as the second most essential household technology item they can't live without, second only to the mobile phone. Among non-technological household items, DVR was beaten out only by washing machine and microwave oven.
"The results show how fast the DVR has become an indispensable part of many people's lives in the US," said Steve Tranter, vice president, broadband and interactive delivery, NDS Americas. "It's one of those technologies that, once you use it, it makes you wonder how you coped before."
lol, yeah me and my dog agree,i record the dog whisperer for her
That is probably because instead of staying home to catch your favorite show people are going out and doing things together, knowing there show has safely recorded..
I'm not nearly that vehement about it, but I can see that they're nice. Being a bit frugal myself ( all right cheap), I still go with the vcr.
Essential, well no, but neither is a microwave. But, I can record football and a few other things, and watch them at a more convenient time. Especially this time of year, when it's just too nice out to sit inside on a Sunday afternoon.
No wonder my wife left. I rarely watch tv and never owned a DVR. Seriously if a device to record tv shows improves a relationship that couple sounds lazy to me.

my best freind and his fiance are American idol nuts, but also watch other shows during the same slots, At one point, he had a 4 vcr setup and would constantly bounce around between vhs tapes....
I told him about the wonders of dvr, but alas, he's a cheapass
he finally caved, and has repeatedly called me out of the blue and thanked me for intro'ing him to the coolest thing ever.
I think the missed point here is that now she can watch sex and the city, or ditzy housewives or whatever other female-oriented shows there are, and you can still get some without having to be up till midnight..........
So how does this "saving a relationship" thing work? Do you program in "Subject: First wife, Time: Honeymoon, Place: Barbados". By saving that you can relive the best part of any relationship back whenever you want? Can you "pause" that relationship and switch over to another to see how that one is going? Can you get it in picture-in-picture mode so you can have two relationships at once? How much disc space does the average relationship take to save?
