I have a obs psd f350 dually. I have owned it three years. I have a tranny problem.
When cold, everything is close to normal. it doesnt seem to slip, but not real sure. I am sort of a motor nut, but thats in jetskis, motorcycles quads, and gas motors. No tranny.
When warm under normal conditions, if I am cruising down the highway, in OD, and I give it a little gas just to speed up, the rpms jump about 200 or so. I should not say jump, its more like "slide". It doesnt do this when cold. It is not kicking down. It feels like the lockup is bad, but I dont know if thats the converter or the tranny. It ticks me off too. With my edge data stream, I see temps in the 180 to 200 range now. I know its high, and its due to the slip.
So the question is, tranny or converter?
I dont have a lot of money now, racing season being here, etc...
I knew I should not have pulled that broke down semi back to the farm, my truck is old, but I love her.
All info is greatly appreciated.
Another thing that I wanted to ask, I can get a tranny out of a 99 DIRT cheap. Will that work in my OBS? Has anyone done this? I dont know if the tranny is different or if the computer runs it any differently, but I guess i should know that BEFORE i drop 500 bucks on it, RIGHT? LOL

That's the torque converter unlocking. It doesn't do that cold because the torque converter doesn't lock when it's cold. It's normal.
The only way to change it is to get a custom chip that changes how this is programmed in the computer.
BD offers a Torque Loc which is a toggle switch to manually keep the convertor locked up, it works great on deceleration too and will release at about 20MPH.
no man, this isnt normal, I mean when I just SLIGHTLY give it more gas, like enough to speed up 2 mph in 6 seconds, or coming up a overpass on the freeway. Its not normal. It wont hold rpm in cruise control on flat land, it slides up and down.
if i am not mistaking the 4r100 and e4od are interchangeable. shoot maybe a 99 tranny still was the e4od. i am no auto guy but that sounds like you have a bad convertor or clutches. hang out for a while i am sure someone who knows will come along.
well, from what I have learned, the 95 and 96 are the same, EVERYTHING else is different. The 97 is its own beast all together I guess. I really need to find someone that knows whats going on for sure. Just got off the phone with Ammco and I think they knew less than what i did.
It sounds like your TC may be the problem replace it with a heavy duty aftermarket and while you are at it do the tricumulator valve and sonex spring mod
Your last post, umm about that. Its all your fault. I blame you. If you wouldnt have distracted me with the help that you gave me, I would have been able to look the extra inch and see the info. So see, you have no one to blame but yourself. LOL
The best thing is first check it on a computer. It does sound like a TC or clutch problem. But if you are going to pull it out, then do it all. Up grade the planet gears, heavy duty TC, sonnex etc. Also put in an "electronic systems eliminator". You can get it from Freeway transmissions.
I tried to switch parts from a 4r100 to my E4OD, but it doesn't work. You can make the E4OD just as good. Just don't skimp. Do it right.
