Hi Fellas
I have a 2002 F-250 V-10. I guess that eating gas (11 MPG) wasnt enough so it has now decided to eat my CD's as well. It has the factory installed 6 disc changer.
I cannot eject, load, nor play the CD's that are in. I tried resetting the radio by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. It keeps displaying "CD Error".
Any help or advise would be appreciated
Thanks
Anyhow btw: sounds like your cd ejecting mechanism is binding in the radio. Time for an aftermarket. Pioneer and alpine make nice close-to-factory looking radios and can be found on ebay pretty cheap. I have the pioneer and its nice. Came with a remote too for when you're rolling around in the back seat with the wife.
My 6cd unit turned to toast very much the same with the first CD that had a paper label on it. The estimate to repair it was higher than replacing the entire radio/cd assembly.
Bummer dude! I've got a 2003 with the factory 6 CD player too. I've had it display the error...but all I had to do was to cut the power to the cd player using the power button...turn it off and wait a minute and then turn it back on and it continues to work well to today.
This problem is well documented but this is the first time I've heard of one that wouldn't re-set. Did you check the fuses? Will the unit light up at all other than the error message?
I have the 6 CD Changer in my 2002 Ranger and it did the same thing. On mine it functioned as far as moving from one CD to another, but would only partially eject and then hang. I took double sided Scotch Tape on a thin knife blade and got the CD's out.
When I took it to the Dealer they told me that Ford no longer repaired their own electronics' that they farm it out. Here they have a Tech with an Audio Co. that comes around to the various Dealer Ships on a rotating schedule.
He gave me the Tech's schedule and I went to another Dealer and they did not put in a Ticket, they just let me meet him on the lot. He replaced the Changer Part and gave me a receipt with Months/Milage Warranty and I saved the Dealer Markup.
He told me that inserting CD's that had "Thick" labels, like paper, would cause the Changer to start to malfunction.
I would second that, I like Pioneer, and have also fallen in love with my Kenwood Excelon. Also, you will find an iPod is a lot nicer than any cd changer. I have my entire music collection on my iPod, and just keep it in the glovebox out of site.
