I have a 2002 Ford Explorer with a 6 CD player that is factory stock. Recently, I have been having a problem with the CDs ejecting. It has now gotten so bad that it will not function at all. When I attempt to eject a CD, it reads "CD Error".
I even bought a new factory CD player and installed it. Radio works fine but the CD function still reads "CD Error". I assume I have wiring problems. Can anyone give me an idea where to start or do I just send it to the shop? Thanks
I know the 6-disc changers have always had issues after a while with ejecting CDs. My '03 GT started doing that after about 4 years so I just swapped it out with an aftermarket unit. Cheaper than trying to get a new factory stereo and better as well.
Something about the gear inside the unit that helps to eject the disc...apparently it's only plastic and the plastic just chews up over time. Supposedly if one knows what they're doing, the unit can be opened up and the gear can be replaced.
