'79 pickup instrument panel illumination problems

There are no lights on the instrument panel when the headlights are on. I have checked the bulbs and they are good. The fuses are all good, and b/c I suspected the headlight dimmer switch, I replaced it, yet the problem remains. The PRND12 selector on the steering column is the only thing that has light, other than the dome light.

I just got this truck, and I am not sure where the problem could be. Please help!!

Start with the headlight switch. I don't have a wire color but the power for the dash comes from the switch and goes to the fuse box and back to the insterment panel connection through the dash lights and back out of the panel to ground.

take the dash panel off and unscrew the instrument cluster. kind of twist it around until you can see or feel a plug in on the drivers side. there will be quite a few wires on this plug in. make sure it is in tight. I had the same problem until I plugged that in tight. Good Luck!
