94 f150 4x4, how do I get the arm off the bottom of the steering box ? ... big nut is off ... arm wont budge, tried a puller, wd40, hammer.... pry bar... it doesn't make sence
I know what you are going thru. These things can be a PITA. When I did my Ford I had a 3ft long pry bar with a friend putting as much pressure as he could while I hit the side of the pitman arm as hard as I could. Finally got it off. There is a special puller for the job, maybe you have tried that. I remember a friend couldn`t get the pitman off a Toyota and ended up pulling the box. He took it to a Toyota shop, they tried the factory puller and couldn` t get it off either. He ended up heating it and using a home made puller. All I can say is just keep trying and good luck.
I have done this twice. It is a real PITA. Just wait once you get it off then you have have fun trying to get the snap ring out that holds the seal in--unless you are replacing the whole box.You will HAVE to have a pitman arm puller. Free rental from autozone and or advance, and probably other auto stores as well. I broke a wrench turning the threaded bolt on the puller, so I had to use a socket to turn it with about a 40" pipe cheater on an old ratchet as my breaker bar broke while trying to get the nut off. Even with that long of a cheater it was hard to turn and I would turn it then let it sit for a bit, maybe whack the arm head a few times while it is under pressure from the puller, keep doing this until it finally releases.Good luck, let me know if you have any tricks to remove the snap ring!
