Question 2008 E250 all over the road??????

I just got a new 2008 E250 for a work van, i picked it up 2.5 hrs from home and it wanders all over the road. took it to ford for the wandering and a vibration at 65 mpg. they had to dismount and move the tires on the rim to balance. the vibration is gone but it wanders or follows the road really bad. some people i spoke with said it normal on a van but i dont buy it. its loaded with tools, but i had them in a ranger before the van so i no its not overloaded. i also have a f350 and it drives like a lincoln. any thoughts before i take it back to ford..

my '97 E250 has ten ply tires and if they get low in air it will follow the grooves. I have to keep 70# air pressure and carry about 3000lb payload.

Some tires can cause the issue you report. Adding a stabilizer bar can help, but shouldn't be required.

had it back to ford, they test drove it and two others they had on there lot, they all drove the same way. The service writer said they all drove bad. I suspect its the hancook tires on it, since they are junk tires i only expect to get 20k out of them. So ill just hold on tight and play with the air pressure

Man this sounds alot like what happened with my '06 E250. I'll post the link to the 4 page thread below but if you want the short version...it's not your tires, sway-bar or suspension.

These vans are easily misaligned, may come that way from the factory and usually require after-market shim kits to do the job right. Find the best alignment shop in town, pay the $80 for the alignment and $150 for two shim kits (if you need both) and be done with it.

You might even recoop your loses with the stealership but don't hold your breath. And don't use their alignment rack either, small specialty shops usually do a better job. Hope this helps.

thanks for the info, i drove another guys 06 van at work today and he drove mine and his drives really nice. he said he drove mine with a death grip on the steering wheel on the highway LOL. next week we are going to swap tires for a day or so and see how mine drives. he had the hankook on his and couldn,t stand them. the guys at work with 150's also hated the hankooks. but if i get new ones, i will have them check the alignment. i have a goodyear truck center by me so i will take it there. they were really good on my old f250 ext cab. i found out that some places dont have racks to do the heavy trucks.

I don't know if you read that whole post I linked but I also chased the 'tire' gremlins too. I ended up with Hankooks as the last ones I put on before I found it was the alignment the whole time. Now the alignment's spot-on and the Hankooks are fine, they really are good tires. Just my .02

i read the whole post, my past experience with these tires are from ford factory, i think there are huge differences between factory tires and replacements. i always get better tread wear from replacement tires.

When I traded my '05 E250 and took the first trip in my '08 I was nervous as a cat in the dog pound. It handled like it was on ice! As you say, it was all over the road! Now my '05 had Roadmaster Load Handler ( http://www.activesuspension.ca/RASInfoBooklet.pdf ) assist on it so that HAD to make it better. With proper tire inflation and a few weeks driving I'm pretty used to it now. There is a BIG difference though, I agree. BTW, my '08 has the Hankook tires on it. They now have 46000 miles on them and will probably go another 20000.......then it's Michelins, I think.

my 05 e350 came with hankooks...put 60,000 miles on them with no handling probs. put new tires on and started to have the wandering problems. Rebalanced tires twice...finally took it to ford - they balanced the tires, did an alignment and all the problems went away as long as i've got 70# in front and #80 in back.

Hankooks are OK overall, but they're not so hot in rain or on wet boat ramps.

I wouldn't rely totally on Goodyear.
