Have I gotten so old that I missed a change in drill sizes?
1/64th =.015625
1/16th = .0625
Is 1/64th not smaller than 1/16th?
If I am correct then what is the problem with the c00nhunters mod?
Rog
Nothing wrong with the mod as long as you don't drill too big of a hole or you decide you want to do something different for the accumulator body down the road (ie, ESE, transgo, VB from BTS/RacerX) If you get a VB down the road expect to pay the core charge.
also, i've ridden in a couple of bts vb'd trucks and i really feel the drilled vb is a crisper shift. i dont know what bts does to the vb's but they do shift the best of all the aftermarket shift kits you can purchase.
you have to have a sharp bit and drill very lightly so the bit doesnt flex on you. and you have to be careful that as the bit finishes through that it doesnt hit the next channel wall cause that will cause an instant egg of the hole.
maybe I missed something, which is very likely, but if you drill a small hole and need a bigger hole, then couldn't you just redrill the hole with the correct bit size?? heck if you are going to buy a new vb anyway, why not just redrill it and give it a shot?
we are not 100% what drill bit he used. but i think he used the correct bit and egged the hole out by mistake. that would definatly cause the over aggressive 2-3 shift. but the softer then stock 1-2 shift has got me puzzled. never seen that happen before. the hole allows the fluid to pass faster. thats why it shifts firmer. it eliminates the slide into gear. even if he drilled the hole too smal it would still shift harder, not softer.
I will let you know what I did tomorrow when I take it off to replace it with a non drilled one as far as I could tell you in pre-install inspection didnt really look egged out but when it comes to how small the hole is not that hard to egg out and not really visible. I will give it a good inspection maybe even take a few pic's not that they will tell you anything real hard to take a pic of something in that small and have it be clear.
