iam new to the bbf execpt to 460 just wondering what the defference between the 390 429 n 460 will they all enterchange with each other will the 390 take 429 or 460 heads etc. trying to build a 429 with out the 460 if possible just a stock 429 going in a 1995 mustang cant find a good truck or good motor 2 start with either all on ebay want to much for shipping to buy a good 429 block is the 429 and 460 pistions the same size in diameter or around please email me with any answers at mg20sm@yahoo.com thanks very much

the two things that are different from a 429 and 460 is the crank and pistons. the rods, heads, valvetrain, block, etc are identical and interchangeable between the two.
the 429 piston has a different pin location than the 460 psiton due to the longer stroke of the 460. so to make a 429 into a 460 you have to replace the crank and pistons. pretty simple way to get an extra 31 cu in.

hey mcdouldm iam trying to turn the 460 into a 429 sorry for the mis understanding could you tell me what i need to do to get the 460 down to a 429 just want a 429 that is why i dont keep the 31 extra cubes thanks email me please mg2osm@yahoo.com

thanks bear 45/70 any thing else you can think of that would give me problems going down to the 429

You need to make sure you have a 429 flywheel or flexplate as the later 460s (1972 on on) were externally balanced and the 429 were not.
