Twice now my dash display and entire Air/Heat screen on the dash has gone dark and shut the system right down. The first time I figured it was a fuse, or a relay. Found nothing, gave up. About an hour later I tried again and it came right back on and worked 100%. Last weekend on the way to the lake while it was about 85 above the unit shut down again. Dealer had just closed as I made a U-turn and pulled in. A friendly mechanic answered a very fast question saying they had had to replace the dash control on some SD`s Mine is an 05 250. I drove tho the lake and about 1 and a half hours into the trip I stopped for 5 minutes for groceries. Shazam the darn Air started to blow and it`s been fine since. Where is my spook. Anyone come across this wierdness.

 

Your head unit is going out. That is the electronic control module. Some people have had luck turning the light switch on and off and the unit will start working. This is a known problem, if you are still under the 3/36 warranty get it back to the dealer.

 

Mine's an 07 and it was replaced at 25K miles.

 

My 05 did this also. Turning the headlights off and back on does work. FWIW, I replaced may batteries 1 1/2 years ago and it has not done it since. With the old batteries, it would do it once per month.
