Fuel Gauge doesn't work.

We juset bought a beater '85 f250 w/ 6.9l diesel for $500. Quite a few problems of course, but we've managed to fix most of them. The wireing is not good. The Chilton's I have doesn't show much of anything in the wiring diagram.

Any help would be appreciated.

My understanding is that if you take the wire off the fuel tank sensor and ground it, the meter should go to full. If it doesn't the in tank sensor is bad (I've heard you can fix them if the connector is loose) Otherwise the wire to the gauge would be the next thing to check, I think you can just touch it with a ground to check the guage itself.

When grounding the wire that goes to the tank, if the guage DOES go to full then the tank sensor is bad.
