I have the Good(Wreck) wrangler RT/S, 255R16 tires that were stock with my 4X4, 1998 F150 4.6. They are almost wore out and I am considering the BF Goodrick tires.
My question is can I go to a 285R16 to fill the wheel well up without cutting anything or rubbing. I dont want to cut anything and if a little rubbing, will it hurt the tire or my truck.
With a bigger tire, it should raise my truck a few inches as well. I realize that it will hurt my mileage, but by how much. I am currently getting about 15-17 mpg.
Should I even consider this bigger tire or stick with the same size. Help me make up my mind????????????????????

You're not going to lose very much if any mileage due to the size of the tires-you're simply going to have a speedometer that's off,and it'll show fewer miles than you're actually driving and make it appear that you're losing fuel mileage. If you correct the speedometer for the tiresize change-you'll find that you're losing very little if any economy.

Yes you can go with 285's (33's) any larger and they will start rubbing. With a 4.6L they very well might kill your mileage by a point or two. I only went that big once, the cost of the tires and the wear and tear on the truck made me go back to 265's. The truck will look great with them but expect your brakes to wear out faster, swap bar end links will break and the ride will be harsher.
Stock brakes can't really handle bigger tires too well. I have just over 34" tires and I would get a little brake fade when the temps were high. Also I can vouch that swaybar links snap and tie rod ends only last half there normal life. I would upgrade these components as well with Moog parts and a steering stabilizer would help a bit too.
