Oil
I am wondering what a good oil is to use in my 2001 F250 V10. It says on the oil cap to use 5W20. I was thinking of going with a little thicker oil would that hurt anything or does it really matter. I was looking at going with Castrol High Mileage 10w30 because my truck has 82000 miles on it. I have not changed the oil in it yet I just got the truck a bit ago. Anyone have any oil recomendations for me.
Thanks Luke
Why not use what the engineers designed it to use?
Unless there are unique circumstances, that is the best option. You don't need high mileage. Just use a high quality name brand and change it regularly and it will do dandy for a very long time. I prefer synthetic if planning to run truck for 200K miles or more.
For those of us who grew up with 30 wt, or 10w40, or 20w50, it looks scary thin and it seems hard to believe it will do the job, but it will!
Modern engines have much tighter clearances and thicker oils will actually decrease protection and lead to more wear - expecially at start up.

Thanks to both of you who replied I will stick with the 5w20 .
