AIH Delete

What exactly is the AIH delete and can you give me instructions on how to do it?

It removes the Air Intake Heater from the cold side of the air intake spider. This removes a substantial blockage of air flow through the air intake. You can get one here: AIH Delete Plug It explains a little more about it, too.

Will it throw a code or trip the SES? Aren't there wires that go into it?

You can install a wire, with a 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistor soldered inline, to a good ground from the AIH relay post where the red wire is removed. This will stop the code from setting. It is a soft code and does not set the SES light, but will show up when read. IIRC, it is a P0541 code for the AIH.

I used the AIH delete plug with the boost fitting from Pure Diesel Power. Great place for boost gauge line to hook up.

Those of you that have installed/removed the AIH, would you say it made a difference and is worth doing?

Don't know, I do know that it is one less electrical problem I have to worry about burning up, plus, now I have an emergency backup relay should my GPR ever go out and I needed a good place to put my boost gauge line. All of which was solved by the AIH delete. Anytime you can remove airflow restrictions, it has to be good. That dang thing is pretty big.

Roland will the code always show up or only if you got into a situation where the AIH wouldve been turned on?

Mine is always there. I think the computer sees it's missing and throws the code. I just see it and leave it. Don't cause any problems.

I saw before that someone just chopped off the heater element and left the wire intact. Any ideas on this?

I guess that would work, but I would remove the wire or at least do something to prevent the thing from trying to energize.
