Bigwin--I may have a pair of new boards coming--have not heard back from him yet. I am in need of rear fenders and boards for 1 of these trucks--are yours that bad? Can you send a pic of them?
I thought the same thing when he said that, about the cam bearings. Some people look at it from the worst case scenerio. (sp) But my engine is clean as a babys but inside---I need to remedy this before it gets coldout.......Bill thanks Kevin
Well--I torched the 64 front mount off--and awaiting to decide to install another yblock and 4 speed into this frame. The 64 engine will be set aside for now. It is a shame--yblocks do not all interchange the way other engine families do......Bill
All Y blocks ARE the same, all you need to do is utilize the correct hardware for the application.
Its no different than a 70 nova 350 and a 58 corvette 283, they are the same basic castings except the mounts are different. The nova is what I would cal text book side mount and the 58 vette had an upper front mount.
One cant expect an engine from 8 years later with upgrades, updates and design changes to be a "bolt in" swap with no problems.
So you torched the mount off, does that tell you how to put the new mount on? I would have removed the balancer, removed the mount, installed the correct mount, reistalled the balancer, made sure the mix of parts were ok to use.
Long story short. a 292 from any year will fit in a 56 with the correct hardware.
Well I have decided to go with the 1956 F500 272 with 4 speed and forget about the 292 /3 speed---it will set in another 56 till I can deal with it.
I have had alot of vehicles and done lots of swaps and the yblocks are definately a weird bunch. I loaned out my puller and never got it back---I will and will raise some hell when I do!!---So I torched the 64 mount--but the 56 mount won't work either.
So I will install the 272 4speed in 56 f100 no.2 and be done with it in a week. My next 56 f100 will have a 351/302 and see how that works. Bill ''the painter''
There is no telling from anything above about the condition of the engines. However, the '64 with three speed would be a fully synchronized 3 speed top loader. It was a big improvement.
I do not understand the difficulty. But if you need a front motor mount for the '56 272 I have an extra which could be had.
I have a 56 yblock front mount. The problem is the 1964 yblock has a different harm balancer and the mount is also different. I have already decided to install the 56 yblock anyway. The problem will then be solved.....thanks
