I have a '73 F-100 with a '70 351-W from a Torino. I have completly modified the motor in some ways. I have installed numerous items: Edelbrock 4-barrel, Edelbrock intake manifold, dualed exhaust by Flowmaster, new timing chain and gears, and have completely re-worked the heads and gaskets. I belive that my distributor is wearing out. I have to consistently check the timing about every 1-2 months.
I am looking at changing into an electronic ignition system by MSD, but have no idea which one would work. I also do not know if I need to add on any type of computer to regulate the timing. If anyone can help me out, please feel free to contact me at KF4JFK(No Email Addresses In Posts!). I am relatively new at ignition systems, but have a thorough knowledge of this motor's operation.
Daniel, I would start with a Good Quality stock distributor (rebuilt)Up Grade to the large cap and rotor...https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles/largecap.html ... Add a Pertronix module....http://www.pertronix.com/ignitor.htm....then Maby an MSD 6Al control box..http://www.jegs.com... No Points No Muss No Fuss!!

Question - will the large cap mod work on a cleveland (single point) distributor? Would the spacer still come from a 302/351W? Or - did the later 400's come with it? Thanks!

Yes the large cap and rotor will adapt just fine on the stock dist body...
the adapter can be found laying around in the junk yard on the late model ford setup....Its funny how many engines in the junk yard have just had a good tune up and then the owner decides to junk the car for what ever reason I guess tune ups dont solve everything
You will have to Up Grade the plug wire ends to adapt to the new cap... OR replace the wires anyway !!
