Heater Core

Is there anyway to replace the heater core in my 97 f150 without taking the dash off. I've been told it's worth the 900$ to have someone do this repair for me but I just can't bear it. Seems like there has to be a better way. Any advice?

Thanks

You got to pull the dash! I though about cutting a hole in the firewall but the core is still in a plastic case.

Why would they do that?$ I had the same thought about the firewall. Does $900 sound about right?

Yea $900 is a little high other than the dealership. I use to charge about $700. Its a all day 8-10 hr. labor and a $50 part plus a little antifreeze.

Ford has a TSB on heater core failures. You might want to read what it says. Replacing the heater core is a job you only want to do once.
