Thermostat

Anyone running a 180* thermostat? Any issues just swapping one in with the computer? It would be nice to have the truck run a little cooler temp, it gets hot down here in florida.

I live in Florida too, but wouldn't think of changing the factory thermostat. I believe it's a 192. These engines are designed to run at the factory temp. Unless yours is running past the midpoint on your temp gauge, I'd leave it alone. If you are running hot, check your coolant, fan belt, and water pump. If the thermostat is sticking, replace with the same as original.

The only thing you will gain with a 180* t-stat is more carbon build up and lower gas mileage! Oh,and after awhile your catalytic convertors will plug up! Decisions, decisions!

The OE temp is fine and produces the least amount of upper cylinder wall wear. A lower temp stat is good for racing and power but not long term engine life. With a OE stat mine runs about 210.

so even as hot as it gets down here in south florida, it wouldn't make sense to drop just 10 degress to a 180* stat?

A truck driving around with a 195* stat in Minnesota in September and a truck driving around with a 195* stat in South Florida are two completely different environments. Does that make any sense at all?

Try it! After you see what I stated earlier you will wish you never had installed it!
