Three and one half years ago I got a 89 donor van for the engine. I got no history. I have now added sixty five thousand miles. Should I be worrying about the pump? What are the failure modes?
I have two used pumps and one seal kit. There seems to be a rather large number of models of this pump type. I have the diagram in the Ford manual and the instructions that came with the seal kit. I do not have a description of operation. And then there is that thing referred to as a regulator on top of an injector.
What is the seal kit for......... IP or the return lines.
Regulator on an injector....... got a picture????
The seal kit is for the injection pump. It is mostly a bunch of O-rings.
The regulator is on the injector on the second cylinder on the drivers side; I don't remember how the cylinders are numbered. You will notice that that injector seems to be taller than the rest. I have not found a functional description of it. I'll post a picture later.

Second injector back on the driver side sounds like the inductive pickup for the timing light. They used this location on the Van's, #4, and the front passenger, #1 on the pick-ups, according the manual I have anyway.
Numbering is #1,#3, #5, #7 front to back on the passenger side and #2, #4, #6, #8 front to back on the driver side.
how does the induction pick up work ?
can u use a gas engine timing light on it ????
Inductive pickup senses the pulse of fuel as it passes to the injector.
Gas engine timing lights are based on spark ingition, we use compression to generate heat for ignition. Your gas timing light is a waste of time. Here is a link to the Stanadyne Time Trac site, but be aware---- These are no longer manufactured---- I bought mine on E-Bay.

I stand corrected, line pressure sensor is correct. Mine is sitting on my desk as I write this and if my camera batteries hadn't died I could show you what they look like when you wish your truck was running.
Then just follow the instructions. I don't have a digi camera that takes small pictures so mine end up being bigger than the text area of our forum, but it works.
P.S.
Tinypic has a feature where you can resize to fit message boards and my wife showed up with her camera, so here are the pics:
Good question, if we keep this thread alive maybe one of the guy's that has access to digital copies of factory manuals will post "The Rest of The Story"
My understanding is that it senses the pulse of fuel, this is picked up by the timimg tool. Then it gets much more complicated than a gasser because there is a timing offset between the time that this pulse happens and the actual injection timing. At that point we need to have an expert chime in to explain the theory but there are lots of threads here if you do a search. here is one that I bookmarked for the same reasons.
I hope someone knows. Surly its not just on there to be there!!! If its called a sensor, I wonder if it generates a minute amount of current or magnetic field that the pickup for the timming kit can sense. Looked for atleast 45 minuts online and found nothing but a part number and cost. (which was $100).
NEWR, I have to ask, Whats that big black thing in the left of pic in back ground. Its driving me absolutly MAD cause Its all fuzzy and I can't figure it out. I will probably feel stupid when I find out what it is.

I think you are correct about the sensor. The Time Trac connects directly to it and picks up the pulse of fuel so it has to be a slight presure to current conversion, I'm thinking that it has a small coil inside the metal outer cover, (Think Transformer Winding)
The big black thing in the back ground is a miniature thermo-nuclear device packaged and ready to send to Denver. ---- OR, the front of a stationary bicycle with a blanket thrown over the top, you choose.

Can you take a close picture of the time trac connector that connects to the sensor. Is it an inductive pickup or just an aligator clamp that snaps over it. I have never seen a timing kit and Im curiuse to what it looks like. May help me solve this puzzle.
Wrong black thing. The thing Im asking about is to the LEFT of your hand in the picture. Looks like it has large gray and silver base. AHHHHH. Can't figure out what it is.... Im going maddd. I not going to be able to work tonight.Thanks.
