Meanwhile, back at the thread, how do pumps fail?

The guy I used to rebuild all my injectors, turbos and pumps told me back in the early 90's that the:
IDI pumps had a plastic coupling inside that would come apart. Pieces of plastic would get lodged in the line and/or injector openings. Replaced with some type of metal coupler.

Second was the nylon fuel advance bushing wear. Replace with a brass bushing if I remember right.

Both of those things could happen early on in the pumps life.

Plain old wear from lots of miles.

Sorry for the change in topics on here. My bad.

Mistaken ID or anyone else. Not sure if you know but What failer causes the pump to instently quit pumping. Is there a seal inside the blows out, or what breaks. One of our trucks was out on the road doing about 70 and just died, no smoke or indicaion of failer. Checked everything and lead to IP. It wasn't the solonoid cause I changed the top first of all. changed the IP and ran great. Also, The IP I bought off ebay, the guy said it just quit running as well and the solonoide works on it too. Its seemed like a common failer but I don't know what part/parts are failing that cause this. Thanks
