Read computer codes via blinking light?

I think I found it..
Well not in the form of blinking or flashing light but while the engine off if you hold the odo button down then start the Escape and wait for about 5-8 seconds then will show tESt, then press the button again to move to the next function.
The downside is that you will need the workshop manuals to help you decipher the content.. but everything is there i.e. temperature, RPM, DTC (Diag. Trouble Code), airbags, foglamps, test all gauges, etc...
So in summary its much better than a blinkg light
