Not to directly bash our friends to the north, but it seems that most of the countries that rely on the United States for their existance (as we know it today) bash and oppose the U.S.
For example; France, Germany.

Even though we have never directly saved their "Canadian Bacon" from utter inialation, I would like a thank you from time to time for the peace they have been fortunate to have directly due to the actions of their friends to their south.

It is very clear that France and Germany have forgotten. However, I still have hope for the Canadians. After all, they are Americans too. Like it or not.

Instead of reading a lot of Canadians,French, Germans, etc

I sure wish I would read

.....Some select people from (insert country) would quit bashing the U.S.

We aren't all the same up here above the 49th.

I don't think all American's share the same viewpoint

You are absolutely right. In fact I have two Canadian nationals in my platoon. Great guys. I apologise for the stereo type. May be it applies to politicians more than anyone else.

Boy howdy, I can tell you this well Southern seated redneck does not agree with ya dakejh.

I have yet to meet a Canadian that couldn't and wouldn't stand just fine and proper on thier own when the stink hit the fan.

. . of course - I have only known a few dozen in total.
FWIW.

Also Crown Royal. Although I have yet to partake of this adult beverage, I understand it is quite fine.

And I thought that there was no such thing as "Canadian Bacon" in Canada, it's just one of those things with a misleading name.

Yeah, I know a few Canadians working in the US who bash the US for not being socialistic enough, although they enjoy the money they earn here and can't earn the same amount in their country (I could also say the same for a Swede who works with me). Those are the ones who give Canadians a bad rap. However, I like to think that there's hope for our neighbors to the North, as the few examples I've come across don't represent a "valid statistical sampling". And, there are a lot of folks up there who have told the government to stick their gun registration where the sun don't shine, so there's got to be plenty of good people up there. Maybe they're sending the bad ones down south of the border.

Crown Royal is whiskey for wimps. Nothing to do with what I think about Canada.

I know a few Canadians and they are great people. But there are bad apples in every country. We have plenty of spares in the U.S. if you need more. Come hell or high water Canada will be our greatest ally since they are at our backs.

Just stop harrasing the ferries that service the coastal towns.

Amen 13hondacr250.... I have driven the Alcan Highway several times. The Canadians are nice people. I personally enjoy the small differences between the two countries. How boring this earth would be otherwise. I would be willing to bet that the Americans bashing the Canadians on this site don't know anymore about Canada other than what Fox News reports.

Mil1on- Do the Canadians also refer to Canadian Bacon/Back Bacon as ham? One of my good friends from Winnipeg called it that.

Hey, if it wern't for Canada, we here in the Lower United States would be next to the Artic Circle.

I do have a problem every Spring and Fall with the Canadians importing and exporting their Geese. I live under a major flyway and they sure can make a mess.

Myself and few friends do everything we can to help you out every fall, sadly, some of 'em get away.

No way I could eat anymore anyway.

I've tried to stay out of this, because it's a losing battle, but a couple of points.

1. We do export the bulk of our goods to the US (hence the the two way street - you NEED electricity and natural gas right?), and as such, our economy is dependent on the US. HOWEVER, we as a nation have the people and the natural resources to be completely self sufficient and prosperous, regardless of who our neighbor is. I would humbly suggest the same would not hold true for the US, simple population density will tell you that. *Some* Americans seem to believe that we are no more than a leach on their prosperity, riding along on their coat tails, nothing could be further from the truth.

2. *Some* Americans seem to believe that we owe our very existance to their military might and that we should heap praise and thank you's on them every day. Never "directly" saved us from annihilation????? I would invite you to carefully read Dono's original reply in the Peter Jennings thread. There's another issure here that also gets ignored, if you don't poke the wasp's nest with a stick, you don't have anything to fear from the wasps. We aren't a lightning rod on the worlds stage for good reason. Canada, and Canadians in general, prefer to take a passive position on world politics and help where we can, we aren't, and don't pretend to be, a world superpower.

3. We are a sovereign nation, and not your last state or puppet to the north. It is our right to disagree and act as independent nation, just as it's your right. The vast majority of Canadians are pro- American on the vast majority of subjects, but like any brothers, there will be topics we disagree on, that's a fact of life. To feel as though you were "sucker punched" or somehow betrayed because we disagreed on certain policies is ridiculous IMHO, and that street also runs two ways.

4. This one is touchy, but I'm gonna throw it out there. I would bet that the majority of those bashing Canada on FTE could not name all the provinces of Canada, and could not name more than 2 politicians, let alone present an understanding of our political system and government, a favourite topic of bashing. (Without a quick internet search anyway )

Everyone knows I heap my share of criticism on certain things "American" that I don't agree with, so I have no problem with taking it in return. Canada is far from perfect. What I have a problem with is the lack of knowledge and general stereotype of Canadians that *some* posters clearly demonstrate when the topic comes up.

All I know is the Heinz Ketchup that they serve up in French speaking Quebec taste like dog pooh.

Too much sugar.

Other than that- Canada is pretty much a non issue. Mostly empty land.

I just feel like if anyone should have our back its the Canadians. When they disagree with us for merely political reasons, its sort of like your brother telling on you.

I know that if it were not for Canada, the evil empire would have been on our northern flank. I know that in WWI and WWII the Canadians rose to the challenge when the U.S. decided to hold off for a while.

Dispite popular belief, We as U.S citizens know that when push comes to shove, the Canadian flag will be next to ours, win or lose.

PS. If you can't argue with family, what's the point?
