I haven't done one in years. Got tired of the long throw on the column so I bought a Hurst Indy. What a peice of universal fit bend and beat junk. Some of the parts are such cheap trash that I'm making the stuff myself. I don't know if there are any options out there, when I surfed all I could find was hurst and junkier junk. Over the years, I've probably done 10 or 15 conversions most were hurst but they've gone a long way down. I guess that's what happens when there is no competition.
b &m unimatic here and i like it. would be nice to have one with a indicator for if anyone else ever drives it but not bad except for the cheap plastic handle.
Hi,
My 1970 F100 with 302 came with a Hurst Indy that the PO had put in to replace the three on the tree. The Indy was a piece of garbage. I replaced it with another Hurst unit, actually 2 parts, a shifter kit and a linkage kit if I recall correctly. The replacement unit functions beautifully and fits in the same location as the Indy did. It was about twice the price of the Indy but well worth it. I could probably find the part numbers if you need them but it would take a few days.
Well, the Indy is a cheap shifter----can't expect it to function like a good one... Quality always costs a bit more.... Couple weeks back i put a Hurst Competition Plus in a customers Mustang, expensive, but works excellent!!!!
I did the same thing on a 66 I use to have and I had the Indy at first and it lasted about 8 months. I went to the Competition Plus shifter and it was night and day different.
You know none of the advertisements for the Indy on the hurst web site say its a cheap peice of garbage, buy something better, they all say its a great product. Cheap $69.95 stuff is out there but I don't think $ 150.00 is exactly cheap. I bought the hurst name and I got screwed. I don't think a reputable company would put thier name on a peice of junk, hurst does and I think it tells you something about them. If/when this thing goes bad, I'll find a Ford product that I can adapt into the truck.
