4r100 experts, essential tools?

For those who have been inside the 4r100, are the Rotunda essential tools the same as needed to rebuild the e4od?

I have the Rotunda tkit for the e4od from rebuilding the transmission in my Bronco, If the same tools apply to the 4r100 I'll keep them, if not they're going on e-bay.

They are pretty much the same basic trans. Most of the specialty tools would be the same. I fabricated all of mine that I used. I don't have any of the Rotunda tools. I would keep them since you already hav'em. PM me, if you decide you want to part with'em.

That's what I understand, and I can't find anything about a kit with the clutch compressors, etc. for the 4r100 so I think these are the ones.

Far as I know, all the clutch compressing tools are the same. The passages in the case and the center support bearing are the two main differences that I can think of. But, these do no not require any different tools for the rebuild. I compared the two transmissions in my rebuilding manuals when I did mine. The rebuilding process is very similar. If you did your E4OD, then you would have no problem with the 4R100. I did use the increased count clutch packs from Alto in mine.

Cool. I've been thinking if I could find a cheap used 4r100 I would start building a replacement for my 7.3. Even though is runs good, at 235,000 miles I suppose replacement is coming sooner rather than later. Thanks for the info.

I found out about a few upgrades, after my rebuild, that I would do next time. Hopefully, that would be a long time from now. I have 12,000 miles on the rebuild with no problems. Knock on wood. This was my first automatic rebuild. I figured if I could do this one, I wouldn't be afraid to tackle another. It was a good learning experience.

Well I have nothing new to add that Roland hasn't already stated. I would definately rebuild mine again if the need should arise. Keep the tools, you'll be glad you did.
