Building a transistorized points setup from tech article plans

I'm looking at building a transistorized points setup that was posted in the tech articles section (appears to be a broken link now). Have any of you guys built it? Just wondering if I should remove the ballast resistor to the coil so that it runs 12V all the time. There appears to be a resistor inline with the points, so I'm thinking they won't get full voltage or current and should last longer.

Never tried that conversion...but why not swap in a Duraspark system or replace the points with the Petronic module? If you live on Vancouver Island I have just the parts truck you need to upgrade your ignition to Duraspark

Yea, I wouldn't re-invent the wheel. Duraspark will work great. By the way, they still use a resistor in the coil circuit on a duraspark, with a bypass for starting.

Looking at the parts list, the project would be about an hours worth of work, and I'd pot the parts in epoxy to keep anything from vibrating. Plus, it's be a fun project. If I go as far as to replace the whole ignition system, it'll be MSD all the way :-) But that's more money than I wanna spend on a stock truck at this point.
