i currently have magnaflow dual exhaust coming out the rear and am wanting my exhaust to be lounder. would it be louder if i dumped it? would i lose any performance? (i would like to keep it legal)
also the other i was working on my truck and noticed the inside of my tips were rusting. is there any chemicals i could put in there to stop this?
Also if your tips are rusting, it is because they are chrome plated steel. Stainless steel tips are a much better choice, that why we don't carry any chrome tips, all our tips are high grade polished stainless steel.
i got an 05 f150 xlt with the 4.6 l

ust wondering if i got it right, if i were to just cut off my duals at the muffler it would still be legal, right? in texas.
would my performance and gas mileage change due to less pressure in the exhaust?
thanks for all the help<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->
You can have trundown's so many inches behind the cab and it would pass inspection. Thats what i have (Cedar Park) Texas. Peformance wise i don't think it would do anything there. You just would here a lot more exhaust noise in the cab.
I noticed with trundowns i get a mutch deeper sound thats what i like, It was louder when i had SI/DO Out the rear with 3 1/2 Tips.

if you decide to keep the tips you have, all you have to do is just get a can of high heat spray paint from autozone (dupli color engine paint) or from your local hardware store (bbq paint). runs about 4-5 bucks a can depending on which you buy and just paint the inside of the tips. make sure you wire brush the rust out first.
no need to get the Stainless tips as long as you paint the inside of the chrome ones they will do just as good.
i used the dupli color engine enamel flat black paint and painted my exhaust from the inlet of the cat all the way to the tailpipe so i have a nice flat black exhaust system. it has been a few months and it is holding up very well, no rock chips or anything on the tailpipe.
so i think im just going to cut off my exhaust and go with cherry bombs glass pack. will i lose horses?
how do they sound? cus i dont want my truck sounding like a damn ricer!!
The longer the glasspack, the quieter it will be. I have seen them range in size from 12" to 36". I have never heard a V8 sound ricey with any glasspack.
If you want loud, and I'm pimping these all the time, get some Powerstick chambered pipe mufflers. At least twice as loud as Magnaflow mufflers and they outflow glasspacks.
with cherry bombs, the truck will not sound ricey, and for it to be legal in texas you have to have i belive 3" of pipe after the muffler, and its got to dump past the cab. Ive got my glasspacks with turn downs welded right to them it dumps abouta foot before rear axle, sounds good too. not real loud, but when i romp on it, it roars back at me.
i have been thinking about what im going to do about my exhaust on my 05 f150 xlt 4.6l with magnaflow duals, a k&n 57 seriesair intake and sct xcal 3 with custom tunes, the past fews days and i decided im going to keep the same magnaflow muffler and just dump my one in, two out muffler. i just want to see how it sounds and go from there, where it be a muffler change or whatever.
however a buddy of mine is discouraging me from doing this and says i should just keep my duals. his reasoning is the loss of back pressure that dumps create make the performance and the horses go down.
i searched the forums and could not find what i was looking for.
is this true? how much horses would i be loosing?
i want my exhaust louder, but dont want to sacrfice performance.
so i finally went the other day and got my magnaflow 1 in 2 out muffler dumped on 05 f150 xlt 4.6l. i like the soundalot better, but i still want it a little louder. i am thinking about swapping it out for a flowmaster muffler.
