exhaust questions

i recently installed a flowtech red hot glass pack muffler on my f150 302. it sounds alright but its not near as loud as i'd like. its a louvered glasspack and i put it backwards thinking it would be louder, but its not. i heard glasspacks get louder over time but since the louvers are backwards i'm guessing it won't get any louder. my question is, if i turned it the right way, would the packing burn out and make it louder, or should i look for a diffenent set up?

pour a little diesel fuel into the muffler… the packing will burn out.

If you have the stock cats still, there is no point in trying to make the truck loud cause it simply will not happen...

From what I've read and heard online, Evan is correct.

Chances are it's just an empty case. I had an old 94 with just the cats and it was very quiet.

I ran my '92 with just the 2 cats and it had a nice mellow tone to it. Not too loud but not quiet either. Since it's a SuperCab SWB it had that 18" extension pipe after the cats and before the rest of the exhaust system, throw only that 18" pipe back on and it was quiet as ever, weird how the dynamics work huh? I'll tell you what's loud though, cut the pipes right before they enter the first cat, leaving about an inch of both the pipes past the o2 sensor, whoa nelly it sounds like Nascar. Just runs pig rich and stalls at almost every stoplight lol.

I drove with open headers and a y pipe cut off about 3 inches past that sensor for 3 months. Conversation was non existent but a lot of burn outs and drag races replaced it! Can't believe I never got pulled over

Glass packs DO break in/burn out over time. You can either wait for that to happen, or do it yourself by putting them in your fire pit or soaking the glass packing inside with diesel/kerosene (NOT gasoline!) and letting them burn.

Make it nice easy and simple drive your truck hard get the exhaust nice and hot go home and stick your garden hose in the tail pipe. Fire it back up and watch as the packing flies out

My daily driver has a stock cat with a cat back dual system (one glass pack) and it can get pretty loud… if I want it to.
