my TB is a dual barrel i guess you could call it, but i was wanting to upgrade to a forced air induction kit from K&N or something of that nature, but cant find any kits that will adapt to my TB. if someone could give me a link or just something that might help id love it, THX
Welcome to the site. You will find lots of inquires and opinions concerning this subject by searching. I think the answer to your question can pretty much be summed up in these two posts though.
For my own mods I measured the throttle body hole mounts, and they are exactly the some as the Cobra/Navigator TB. Even the TPS sensor screw holes are the same. I have a '99 Navigator, and the throttle linkage looks like it would work too. I am looking at BBK's 65mm TB for '96-'02 Cobra, and I think at least for a 460 that a guy could make a Navigator K&N FIPK work with some extra tubing to reach the side/corner. My truck has Speed Density, and I think I can still make it work with extra tubing and mount for the filter. They have idle adjustment, and it states right in the Ford manual if you have the battery disconnected, to fire up the truck and let it idle in neutral for a couple of minutes to relearn it's idle. I'm sure it would be even easier for a MAF truck. I like the idea of a dual 65 compared to the 61, especially with some mods. If it don't work then I'll throw it on the Navigator.
hey thanks for the links they worked this time...but that was really helpful some of the links that were on there, but what did you mean cut off the tubing by the grill? i could use all the extra air flow to go with my custom exhaust we are gonna finish up cuz right now its getting hot, and little amounts of air with stock box, THX
Well, since you haven't mentioned the details of your truck (year, engine, etc..) I am not really sure which kinda box and inlet tube you have. On my 460 (and I think its the same for the 300-6), the inlet tube going to the box is open to the grill area and thus receives only outside air. It has a little curved end and that is what I removed, making it a straight shot for the outside air to go into the tube and air box. The other restriction is the "horns" inside the two hoses, these are located about midway where the IAC tube is connected.
After making those mods, I think your golden. The FIPK for these trucks is simply a cone filter on the end of the hoses. The hoses flow plenty and don't need to be replaced with anything else IMHO.
oh sorry its a 1990 f150 302 5.0l 4x4 just like you described except a tube bends up from the bottom of the box to the top of the radiator and sits rigt beneath the hood so its getting little air and hot air at that
