wheres the best place to buy carpet kit for my 54 f100 and also does it come with cut outs for the transmission cover and battery, i want it to go right the way up the firewall so does it also have a hole for my stock heater.
We bought ours through Sacramento Vintage Ford and it did not have any of the cutouts. We also bought a firewall cover from Mid Fifty's F100. The carpet didn't go up high enough to interfere with the stock heater.
I have not seen any carpet kits that go very far up the firewall. I tried one from LMC and ended up sending it back. It didn't fit well and was very stiff. I ended up having my upholstery shop get some and it came out real well. Very flexible and the pile is such that it goes back together where it was cut to fit around the steering column. Can barely see the joint. I went as high up the firewall as I could. Be sure to use some heavy insulation under it. I used 1/2" Jute with foil on one side. It really smooths out the floor and is real quiet. Stick it all down with contact cement where you need it.
No clue who did mine, but it was not a kit. Some upholstery shop did a nice install on it. All the edges are sewn.
The battery and master cylinder are under the floor. I have to remove 3 stanless screws from a tiny angle iron on the door sill and lift the carpet to get to them.
I am not fond of the stuff they used, but it looks good. It is on the firewall, floors, back wall, and roof. There is jute (think that is the correct word) padding under it.
