You must remember that there are times that black smoke are warning signs and not just a sign of pecker power.
So, learning to tell these signs makes a difference as well.
So, if your truck is stock, and whammin out black smoke on shifts and such, something might be bad. =)
hmm. black smoke in my opinion is a sign that a diesel truck is runnin' damn good. if your rollin' coal your makin' some real power. the more fuel you dump in the engine then the faster the turbo spools up and the more boost you will make. the more boost the more power and who doesn't like to have a lot of power?!?! i love my black smoke...

Your exactly right. Back in the old days big rigs used to have a mirror that pointed to the stack. It was a good indication as when you should shift to a smaller hole.
so i guess the dealer was half right on that part...
the dealer told me that a diesel should NEVER pour black smoke,
when i brought up that big rigs pour it every take off, he changed the subject...
so, a 6.0, intake, exhaust, and a chip will roll coal like a champ??
or am i wrong?? (how bad do i need a chip to do it??)
a 6.0 with intake exhaust and a good chip will blow good smoke off the line, but i would still rather have my 7.3 with injectors, intake, exhaust, chip, etc. and roll coal whenever i want, however thick i want, and however long i want. LoL.
Wal-Mart parking lot huh? Probably the Wal-Mart bag mod. It makes alot of smoke and is free.
Just take a wal-mart bag and cover your airfilter with it. decreasing airflow while fuel is still pumping = SMOKE. I wouldn't recommend it to the average person. Just the show offs.
I truly believe the real truck to be wary of is the one that doesn't smoke til it eccelerates alot then clears up quickly. Trust me I know... Muuuhahaha
Yes and no. I have driven 500 miles but they are all interstate. I need some city driving but I should be fine. I don't have a way to get videos on the net. Call me backwards but we have a camcorder but don't have what we need to connect it to computer. I am still daily driving it. I got a load of fire wodd in it right now so I am adding weight. In another week or two i will be pulling the heavy 5er and that will be the test. That is why I built it this way.
They do make a chip/program that disables the turbo and produces large amounts of smoke at idle. i forgot what its called but i saw it on youtube one day.ill see if i can find it
