Gentlemen I am a big fan of this forum. I have gained a tremendous amount of help from this thread. I have a question for the board. this weekend I was in the Walmart parking lot and saw a F250 creeping along down the aisle of the parking lot with Black smoke just a pouring out the exhaust. This was not a problem with the truck but more of the owner showing out by puffing this smoke. My question is how is this done? I thought it looked very cool myself and was curious how this works. I assume he had some sort of injection system pumping extra fuel allowing this to pour the smoke out. I had one guy tell me certain programmers allow this function, but I cant see how a programmer does this. I hope I have explained this accurately. This truck was litterally dumping black smoke all over the parking lot of walmart and the owner just smiling away! And second is this bad for the engine to have this amount of black beefing out the exhaust? thanks Guys Maxx
The guy prolly had intake exhuast, progammer and stage 2 or 3 injectors in it. It is possible because I had a 06 with bullydog programmer and it pour out black smoke
I have also been told the Edge Evolution produces lots of Black smoke. I currently have a hypertech programmer, 4" intake, 4" exhaust/5" stacks. Anybody have one of these on their truck and care to comment on? Thanks
Funny I saw the same thing recently. It was a NBS truck creeping along (not reving) in the wally world lot, with a good trial of blak smoke behind him.
Black smoke is excess fuel burning IN THE CYLINDERS that comes out the tail.
Programmers will give you a little, but if you really wanna "roll the coal" you need injectors and a tuner.
It doesnt harm anything as long as you dont do it so long that your EGT's stay too high too long.
If you bog your truck (easy with a manual, just run a gear too high) and lay on the skinny pedal, it'll put out more black smoke.
your exhaust and intake makes it harder, because you can get air in and out faster. so you are probably looking for injectors and a tuner/chip.
tony wildman from Total Diesel Performance. His chips have the best tunes on it and is probably the best to get your chip from. Has custom chips from 4 & 6 pos and you chose what you want on it, he can also reburn chip for bigger injectors, bigger oil, fuel. Really makes a difference in the way your OBS runs.
on my truck in tow safe on my superchips when pulling a load i can get an ok cloud of smoke in 3rd and 4th gear between 1500 and 2000 rpms. a nice steady stream of black smoke but its not like a total blackout or anything.
Are these Chips easily installed? I assume they dont plug into the port under the passenger dash. Im fairly mechanical but sort of hate the idea of messing with the PCM? I guess the chips plug into the PCM? thanks
Silly question I guess, but whats the fascination with black smoke If its excess fuel you are burning that causes it, isn't that sort of a waste? I see it all the time on the road, and I guess it just doesn't impress me...in fact I almost view it as a truck that is not running right. I prefer my stock setup that produces no smoke no matter the pedal position or gear I am in...I know, stock....how boring

Because if you can make black smoke, you can make power.
so, rollin the coal in a shopping center is showing his truck has B*lls.
Stock will make smoke, go check your tailpipe and the inside will be coated in it. it just wont make that much.
