ok so we have all heard about injectors goin out and hpop takin a turn and trans hittin the ground soo i wanna do a poll to see what everybody thinks is the weakest link on a 7.3
I have a stick and I am still choosing trans error. Now I am in no way denying the all mighty idiot error, but between the crappy hydro clutch system, dual mass flywheels, plastic pilot bearing cages, weak clutch forks, and the auto crap there is no doubt they are a lot of trouble.
I voted "Owners lack of knowledge on maint. and upgrades". If you have the "knowledge" about the short comings and the "knowledge" to do the upgrades you can upgrade it before it breaks. Good "knowledge" of maintenance will keep a "stock" truck running for 300,000 to 500,000 miles. I am a big believer in preventative maintenance. Beats the H3LL out of having to do corrective maintenance. Cheaper too. JMHO
owners lack of knowledge on maint and upgrades remember the thread about 3 weeks ago about the 7.3 liter DURAMAX that guy probbably dosent know the difference between a glow plug and a spark plug what an idiot
The fuel injection system is defanitely the weakest link, if you are consdering the weakest link for making insane amounts of HP. There is simply not enough time for the injector to fill with oil, fuel, and be electronically fired in the millionth's of seconds that is required. Much over 2800rpm, it becomes too rapid of a cycle, and it cuts the current injector short when the next one in line comes up. Put a commonrail CP3 system on a 7.3 and with a built engine, we'd be right with the new commonrail engines.

i agree 95% other 5% is divided between the other choices ha
Tranny. They use the same one for the triton 5.4 .... does that make sense? It feels mushy behind the truck and cant handle large loads for extended periods of time.
I voted owner/idiot. The tranny will fail eventually and with an idiot that does nothing about it it will happen quicker. Being a proud owner of the diode model I almost and should have voted tranny. What a bunch of *********s they were. They should have replaced every one of those as soon as they realized what a POS it was. The HEUI system is fine for what it was designed to do. They just stayed with it for too long.
