A good friend of mine has a F450 tow truck at Astro w/6.4. His personal ride is a Dmax. He got the Dmax after the 6.4. He drove his tow truck when it first came in and I had a chance to drive one of the first ones around at Humboldt. Ryan asked me what I thought of it and I told him that it felt more like my brother's Dmax than my 6.0. His response was 'my feelings exactly'. This isnt brand bashing - I have always talked about Ward's Dmax being much more refined than my 6.0 and I feel the 6.4 is on track with the Dmax in that department.
There is a solution to the 6.4 dilemna. If you remove the DPF, replace the exhaust with a sweet dual cat back system, and install a custom tune to boost the power and get rid of the regens, it gains back 3, 4, maybe as much as 5 mpg (based on what I have read - dont know anyone yet who has done this - all too scared of warranty).
I will drive my 6.0 until it becomes problematic and hell, its working so good, performing so well, and turning heads all the time that I might even fix it one more time!
I should really knock on wood!!!!!!!

Very true about the ambulances. My womans sister drives an ambulance and all they have is fords. They had quite a few problems with the 6 liters came out, but then stuck with them.
Id love to have a 6.4 and have considered trading my old truck off on one, but with them be notoriously poor on fuel, I think Im just gonna wait for abit yet.
