My 06 psd F250 with ESOF 4x4 wont engage. Its got a code in the 4x4 module C1728. I can watch the input from the switch with my scan tool and the switch is commanding it how it should. I've checked all circuits from the module to the motor on the x-fer case and all test fine. I havent had much time to dig too deeply on it, has anyone had this problem? Im leaning towards the motor being bad, just getting some input if anyone has any. Thanks,
No guys, its a problem with the transfer case engaging. Nothing to do with the front end whatsoever. It has the code C1728 which is for x-case not shifting between ranges. I have 2-hi and nothing else. The front driveshaft wont spin.

With the key on and the engine off, transmission in neutral (or foot on clutch) switch from 2H to 4H. You should be able to hear the shift motor attempting to shift.
Obviously you need the window down and be in a quiet area.
Probe the motors wires, if they show power but the motor doesn't move, you've got a dead motor. You could also check for amperage, but if the motor is stalled it will probably trip a 10amp fuse pretty easy.
Check the wiring to the switch - the servo motor assembly has a switch on it that tells the GEM (or whatever they call it now) what gear the transfer case is in.
If the servo is actually shifting, the switch will tell the GEM it's in 4x4 - if it never sees it shift (by watching the switch) it might shift back just to be safe.
First thing, check if the servo motor is running as has already been mentioned.
