I have a 01 f-250 the shifter on the column i missing the black plastic end -the piece around the overdrive button i called a dealership and they didnt know what i was talking about anyone have a part number or do i need the whole shifter?
thanks jeff
I assume your talking about the cap that holds the overdrive switch in, right? Try ebay i found a overdrive button and cap for $9.00 on there. I tried Ford, and they want you to buy the whole shift lever now (65.00). I told them I just needed the O/D button and cap. They dont sell them like that anymore, you have to buy the whole lever. Thats what my dealer told me anyway. Hope this helps.

Yep, let's assemble something out of pure junk and when "Johnny Public" comes in to replace a part of it we will make him buy the whole thing again.

They do that for alot of things and it's not just them, but every dealership that I have been to makes you buy the whole set rather or not you need a part of it or not.
krewalt, if I manufactured or sold a product such as this whereas a simple button cap was just falling off, then yes I would make that part available for the public to replace it. This is a very common thing with this shift lever. If the lever was assembled and glued correctly I would have no problem buying the assembly if the switch went bad, but the problem is not the switch, it's the simple piece of plastic that holds it in. I find it kind of ironic that under warranty Ford would replace just the cap, but as soon as the warranty was up, look out, now the owner has to buy the whole assembly. IMHO
Yes, and that someone was myself. Went to the dealer to buy the part, the parts guy couldn't find it on the computer but had an open bag of them in his hand. He call over the Sr. parts guy who told him in front of me that these were no longer a retail part. With the Expy. still under warranty I went to the service counter and requested the part for the shifter. The guy walked over to the parts counter, got the part and put it on. I was only going to purchase it because the original one was lost. Just was trying to be nice about it because the warranty covered it coming off but I didn't expect them to cover something I lost.
I know I've gotten that part before, but maybe it is different through the wholesale side? I've seen it alot and never had to buy the whole shifter. assy.
I was able to find it in the y2kford (FTE/PARTS-GUY) web site, just the cap.

If you go into the collision catalog, Steering Column, Housing and components, Cap.
$5.99
FTE/PARTS-GUY - where ARE you
reps to you!!!!! Looks like if this part is indeed available to the retail customer I'm gonna have some questions for the owner of this dealership. This is the same diagram the parts counter guy showed me but it wasn't listed as for sale retail on his computer. They told me you could only buy the whole assembly. Can dealers pick and choose how they sale components?

Don't know about pick and choose, but I wonder if they only come in a bag of 5 or something to that effect? Like you said, the guy had a bag of them. If they didn't have a bag of them in stock, and you had to order it, it might not come up as "available" when you want QTY=1.
Oh, and "EXPY"? Excursion or Expedition? Different animal
