I have a 2005 Escape Limited v-6 4x4. I have had the car since it was new and now have 87k on it. I have maintained it according to recommendations.
Recently I get an occasional rumbling sound similar to running over a rumble strip that last less than 5 seconds and seems to only occur when shifting. Today it did at 48mph at low rpm. I also get a loud clunk occasionally when the transmission shifts.
I stopped by a Ford dealership and they want $100 just to look at it. I also found a Mr. Transmission who will give me an diagnosis and estimate for free.
Comments appreciated.
Thanks,
Don
I would take it to the free place. If you are following the recomendations in the owners manual, you are only 3,000 miles away from needing your AFT changed for the third time so I would do it again ASAP. Torque converter problems can give the "rumble strip" symptoms. Good luck!
