Guys i need your help again, i have a 2000 F 150 5.4 4x4 ex cab 170,000 miles . I have a vibaration problem and a loud rumble coming from the rear. The rumble only occurs when i run it up to about 75 and over and then let off the gas. 75 mph and over is also when the vibration occurs. I have had the wheels balance 3 times, i have installed new u joints. Any ideas. thanks alot.
ya the speed limit is only 65 lol, ya i looked it over real good and it looked fine but after reading in my haynes manual maybe i should look a little closer.
To take apart the rear end you need to jack up the rear end and take the rear cover off. Then there is a 8mm headed bolt you will need a 6 point 8mm wrench watch out you don't brake it. Take that out and then slide the big pin out from your spider gears. Then back off your rear brakes and take the drums off. Then push the axles in and then the the u clips that hold the axles in... The u clips are in by the spider gears once they are out pull the axles out and look at your axle bearings... good luck! Thats the best I can tell you how to do it
well took the pan off my rear axle today had my dad help me hes worked on several axles neither one of us could tell a thing wrong the gears all looked good, no metal shavings, bearings felt good. I'm now back to thinking maybe its one or all of the tires. the only thing that kind of baffled us was that when we turned the drive shaft by hand it turned really easy one way and sort of hard the other. that was with it both hooked up to the axle and unhooked. Also the axle turned real easy after we unhooked the drive shaft. Thanks for all your help and advice.
