anyone recognize this filter?

Hey guys,
For some odd reason, Autozone or pepboys do not carry or at least I could not find the AFE filter I have on my truck. Can anyone recognize this filter and give me the model number?

Also, I know I was told that 6637 filters from NAPA was good for 7.3s, but I have tried to order one from NAPA(local store) and they don't seems to recognize 6637 Air filter, pretty much clueless.

Thanks

Also, I see that similar filters like mine on AFE site is priced at $240(plus or minus).
part number :51-10061
part number : 54-10061 ( this is washable)
So, just wondering if there is any way to clean this filter rather than buying new one?

Give them the NAPA # 46637. They will find that. It's a great filter for our 7.3.

The kit in the picture is an AFE kit, so I would assume it has an AFE filter which is cleanable. You need to pick up a cleaning kit, K&Ns will work fine but I wouldn't use Accel's or Green's cleaner kit on that filter.

Spray the filter down with the cleaning agent. Let is soak for 15 minutes, hose it out from the inside out, let it dry for a hour or so and re-oil it. I like having a spare filter, so I can swap out my dirty one for a clean one and clean the dirty one at my leisure.

^^x2 with ReAX on this. It looks like a Proguard 7 series from the photo's, but shorter than the one that I put on my '06 PSD.

One thing though....use LOW PRESSURE water when rinsing. I ruined a perfectly good filter using high-pressure water, an $85-90.00 lesson.

K&N and AFE make cleaning kits for their systems, fwiw.

I have one exactly like it on my truck. I know that one of these type filters requires oiling and one doesn't. It doesn't look like mine has ever been oiled.

If you find more info please post it. If I can't figure out what to do with this one I'm going to have to buy a new one as well.

Thanks !

The replacement filter should be around $60. AFE's website isn't very cross reference friendly.

If you'll measure it up, you can go to K&N's website and find a replacement filter by dimensions.

Vijay,

Let us know how the cleaning goes. I'll pick up some the cleaner and do mine if it works out for you. My filter isn't really dirty at all and appears to have been cleaned just prior to me buying the truck. I'm real fussy about keeping filters cleaned and other maintenance so I'll be ready to clean it soon whether it needs it or not !

Thanks !
Bob

Yep, K&N cleaner should do the trick.

As mentioned....you should be able to buy the filter itself for under $100.
No need to buy the entire intake.

Thanks guys,
Here is how the cleaning turned out. I spray the cleaner first(all K&N cleaning product for 12 bucks from PepBoyz), after 10 minutes wash it from inside out with low pressure water (the greasy gunk starts to fall apart). I let it dry for three hours. The black greasy stuff still remains, so, I repeat the above step again.
Now, the question is, since I have washed it twice has it damaged the filter? Also, I held the filter towards a light source and could see the light penetrating through it, not a gaping hole but really really small but uniform( I was seeing from inside out, I'm making any sense?)!!! that does not look right? Correct?

Another silly question,
PepBoys has similar filters but some "god knows" brands, will it make any difference if I use them instead (as long as I match the size)?

If you have the Proguard filter it is one of the best aftermarket filters around, I definitely wouldn't replace it with a K&N or other brand. Clean out your air intake tube, put the cleaned filter back in and drive it around for a while. Then wipe the inside of the air tube with a white rag and see if you find any dirt. If you do you need a new filter (replace it with a Progaurd 7 filter). If not put it back in and have fun. The proguard filters do not use oil, so don't put the K&N oil on it if it's a Proguard filter.

Mine had oil residue when I removed to clean. So, I guess I do not have the Proguard filter.
Anyway, do you have link to progaurd? AFE has to have the ugliest site catalog site in the world, All I was looking was a number to reach them and it prompts me to create an account first!!! geez
