Strange BUZZING noise from dash!!

2001 F-350 w/PS, 90K, auto . . .
This morning, for the first time, I started hearing a buzzing noise (kind of like a gieger counter) from the steering column area under the dash.
Not awfully loud, it is virtually drowned out by engine and radio noises.
AND . . . I noticed it became intermittant as I went through the gears to put it in drive. And if I held the shifter in between gears, the noise stopped.
But then, when I turned on the turn signal, the noise went away completely. Left, right, didn't matter. And it went away when I turned on the hazzards.

What the???!!

WOW! Had all ya stumped too, eh?

It's related to wiring harnesses inder the dash and around the steering column. Because I can wiggle wiresconnectors under there and it will stop. The sound is eminateing from the passenger side undethe dash but seems accessable once the large access paanel is removed.

I did blow a couple fuses while wiggling wiresconnectors. It is now intermittant, so I'm getting close!

Too wierd!

Did you ever figure that noise out? I've got a similar noise.

Yes. I removed the large access cover, and while driving around (for a few days) I tried wiggling one or more of the harnesses near the steering column until I found one that made it quit. It did come back a few times, but finally quit and has not come back.
I really don't know which harness, or why, but it was right next to the left side and slightly above the steering column.
I did blow a couple fuses during this operation.
Don't know what buzzed, but it has stopped. I can just imagine a harness was loose or somethinhg.
\Search in the "1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel " section as I got responses there also.

You may want to check the wiring harness in the steering column. There are numerous posts where the wiring insulation wears through and causes a short inside the steering column.

It also could be the multifunction switch, turnsignal, flashers, wipers !

I'm stumped with this buzzing. The buzzing noise sounds like it is coming directly from the heater core. I've taken the glove box off and the heater core cover off and thats where the buzzing sounds like its coming from. My buzz started a few weeks ago. I was driving the truck normally and then suddlenly got a urge to floor it. I wound the motor out to about 5000 RPMs and the noise started. I thought uh o, a blown head gasket but all is well with the engine. My buzz doesn't start till 2500 RPMs and gets lounder with the engine as the RPMs rise then as the RPMs come down, the buzzing quits at 2500 RPMs. I can only hear the buzzing in the cab. I cannot hear it in the engine compartment at all. I've checked the PVC with no luck. I've giggled wires in the dash and just about taken the whole dash apart trying to find it. I'm stumped. I've never heard of a heater core buzzing and it gets pretty loud when the RPMs get high

It's probably your flasher or whatever it is that controls how your turn signals flash A few months after I got my truck it started buzzing below the dash. I took it in and they changed out that flasher (or whatever it is) and it stopped. Hadn't heard from it since....

I have the same noise coming from my dash on my 2004 Ford Ranger. (Geiger Counter) It was even doing it briefly when it was turned off. Anybody know what this is?
