The old boy who did the box work is telling me that the 4 speed transmission and 2 speed rear end are "noisy" and he suggested that I change the fluid after it gets going in this barn find. "The top part of the bearings may be rusty from sitting out of oil..."
QUESTIONS:
1.) What do you all suggest for gear oil/additive for this 4 speed TRANS and 2 speed DIFF?
2.) and what TYPE OF PLUG is in the differential AND the Transmission? What size? Is it a square plug or an allen?
3.) Anyone have part numbers for napa or ??? for POINTS AND CONDENSER? Cap & Rotor? I would like to carry an extra set...
Tomorrow morning I am having some tools shipped from the Dallas Hub of my tool supplier to the truck so I will not be tool naked on this voyage...so I will have basic hand tools up to 2", breaker bars, a couple of 20 ton bottle jacks etc ... The tires are new the brakes were just done recently by the seller. The old boy who did the work is familiar with the 292 y block and confirms its very nice. The truck is solid. Its just the likely bearing noise in the diff and trans that I want to combat. Ill do it my self if I can Ill change out the fluid maybe twice on this 1400 mile I 20/I 10 drive. Anyone have part numbers for napa or ??? for POINTS AND CONDENSER? I would like to carry an extra set...
Any suggestions for charging my cell phone etc...the truck is 6 volt. I will need to charge the cell phone. Im also having one of those hand held battery booster/back up battery packs shipped in but thought I would ask about any other thoughts. When the truck gets here I have a nice diesel generator that needs to be installed but thats not going to help me on this trip.
ANY THING ELSE You all can suggest???
Any one live along my travel path between Dallas and San Diego... in case? I have a friend in Phoenix.
