If you don't go the Studebaker route, I second the semi truck idea. Most of them have a washer mechanism that simply clips over the wiper arm and is barely noticeable. In my opinion, they actually do a better job than the hood or cowl mounted type.
I remember seeing an original windshield washer setup on a 54 years back and missed buying one on E-Bay maybe a year ago. I think I have a footpump somewhere. It was basically a small milk type bottle that sat in a metal strap holder on the engine side of firewall and had tubes running to emitters that are in hood near cowl. They are very rare but kinda neat I think. Seems to me I've seen a picture in one of the old manuals? Anyway, to make this inspector "happy" could'nt you rig up a temporary washer and pull it out after he signs truck off as OK??
