Ok, so I've never done bodywork before... but that doesn't usually stop me. I saw a sign on a guys truck last week that said something to the effect..."Flaws must really be expensive,.... cause everyone looks for them."
I was intimidated by all the nice smooth fenders at last weeks local Cruise-in, since I am doing bodywork, I'm looking at stuff like that now. Anywho, you don't have to look hard on mine.. BUT, I have come a long way.
I created a new Album in my gallery with a couple more fender pix.
Steve, if you had not told any one, no one would know that you had never done body work before. Very nice work. Maybe there is hope for me yet. I still have my body work to do and like you have never done much more than use a little bondo. Looks great, I hope mine comes out half a well.
They look good from my house!LOL Man you did a great job, my fenders look like they could be twins! How bad was it to hammer out the dent up front in the fender? I have to start mine. Just got some paint today for the inner fenders and air damns. I guess theres no time than now!
I've turned wrenchs all my life, Learning how to do bodywork was like learning a foreign language...I've been reading everything I could get my hands on for the past 7-8 years, and working on repairing my panels during this time...welding in patches, pulling dent shrinking/ stretching, straighting, grinding...just trying to get them close enough to add a lite coat of filler and some Epoxy Primer...So I know very well how satisfied you feel getting to this point...Congrats!
Thanks guys.... A friend of mine here on the board (RJ) gave me my inspiration. He told me he had never done any of this stuff either and that was all I needed. This board has been a huge help... Ax has published some great stuff. There's something about the satisfaction of doing it yourself... Even if it's not perfect, I know that I did it. I've said "that's good enough" a bunch a times, but then keep workin on smaller and smaller imperfections.
If I can do it, anyone can.
Your stuff looks great but I guess I feel a little embarassed now, my truck is in the body shop, is about 75% done. First time I ever farmed out a body job.
Wow! great first effort! Many pros in the magazines don't do that good of work. If anything I said helped you do that work, I'm very proud!
Don't know that you need it, but for others there's a pretty good article on block sanding and straightening body lines in the newest issue of Classic Trucks.
